Trash Kans provides the weekly garbage and recycling pick up service for every household in Dayton, Indiana. Each household has been provided two, 95-gallon wheeled totes for curbside pick up. Red lids are for trash, yellow lids are for recycling.

Service Overview

Pick Up Schedule

Trash pick up is on Friday. Recycling pick up is every other Friday. Please place both your totes at the curb Thursday night or before 5 a.m. on Friday.

If you have items that are too large to fit in your curbside tote, please call our office 765-447-9000 to schedule a pick up.

Residents are billed through the Village of Dayton for weekly household trash service. Any extra container rentals or bulk pick ups are paid directly through Trash Kans.

If your household regularly produces more trash than your current tote can hold, you can rent an extra tote from Trash Kans for $11.40 per month.

We are closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. If your pick up falls on or after Christmas Day, your pick up will be one day later during that week. If you have extra waste during the holiday season, please place extra material in a bag next to your cart; no heavier than 50 lbs.

Battery Disposal

Alkaline Batteries are common household batteries known as AA, AAA, 9V, and D. They are typically found in remotes, toys and flashlights. Alkaline batteries do not contain mercury and are safe to throw in your regular trash bin. They should never be placed in your curbside recycling cart. However, recycling alkaline batteries is an option. Many electronic and hardware stores will accept them to ensure proper recycling and disposal.

Lithium Batteries are a bit different than alkaline and require careful disposal. They are light-weight, longer lasting, and can be recharged. They are commonly found in smartwatches, laptops, cellphones and power tools. Lithium batteries contain hazardous materials and ignite fires when crushed or damaged.
